Racist Army Video Airs on German TV
BERLIN (AP) A video of a German army instructor is making waves in the U.S.
In the video shown on German TV, the instructor is heard ordering a soldier to envision himself in The Bronx, New York, facing hostile blacks while firing his machine gun.
The Bronx borough president is demanding an apology. Adolfo Carrion Junior says the clip "indicates that bias and assumptions and racism is alive and well around the world."
Carrion says whoever was responsible for the video should be disciplined. German defense officials say they are "investigating."
According to the news magazine Stern, the clip had been posted on a Web site used by soldiers to exchange private videos.
Last year, newspapers published photos of German soldiers in Afghanistan posing with skulls.
The video appears likely to raise more questions about training practices in Germany's conscript army.
