We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing.

Suspended Vatican Official Insists He Was Only Pretending to Be Gay

VATICAN CITY (AP)  A Vatican official suspended after being caught on hidden camera making advances to a young man says he is not gay and was only pretending to be gay as part of his work.

In an interview with La Repubblica newspaper, the official says he frequented online gay chat rooms and met with gay men as part of his work as a psychoanalyst.

He says that he pretended to be gay in order to gather information about those who he says "damage the image of the Church with homosexual activity."

The official says he "was a victim"of his "own attempts to contribute to cleaning up the Church" through "psychoanalyst work."

A Vatican spokesman said Saturday the official had been suspended pending a Vatican investigation.
