Coaltion: Bishops Back California Marriage Proposition
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) A California coalition which supports a proposition defining marriage as between a man and a woman now has the backing of a major Catholic group.
The coalition, which calls itself ProtectMarriage.com, says it now has the endorsement of the California Catholic Conference. The conference includes the Archdioceses of Los Angeles and San Francisco.
In their statement, the Bishops for the dioceses say the proposition would guard against "radical change in California's public policy regarding marriage."
The California Supreme Court overturned the state's bans on same-sex marriage.
