Hindus Angered by Christian Evangelism
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The director of the Hindu American Foundation says religious violence in India should make Christians re-examine their efforts to convert Hindus.
Suhag Shukla insists there's no excuse for attacks by Hindu mobs that have left dozens dead, thousands terrified and scores of churches in ruins.
But Shukla denounces what she calls "aggressive proselytizing" by American-funded missionaries.
Some in India accuse Christians of bribing poor Hindus to convert by offering them free education or medical care, and parts of India have outlawed so-called "forced conversions."
But the vice president of the Federation of Indian American Christian Organizations of North America says India's central government should declare that "conversion cannot be banned."
