Clergy Hope Injunction Leads to Immigration Reform
PHOENIX (AP) _ Religious activists who oppose Arizona's new immigration law say they'll go ahead with prayer vigils Thursday despite an injunction blocking some of the law's provisions from taking effect.
A federal judge postponed a requirement that officers check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws, a provision requiring immigrants to carry their papers at all times, and a section making it illegal for undocumented workers to solicit employment in public places.
But Kim Bobo, executive director of Interfaith Worker Justice, notes that the injunction is temporary. She says what's still needed is comprehensive immigration reform.
The Rev. Peter Morales, president of the Unitarian Universalist Association, said he believes ``it's a struggle for America's soul.''
